JOB SUMMARY
Provides work direction and support for armed court security staff within the Superior Court and Justice Court locations. Enforces Superior Court security procedures under the direction of the Security Supervisor and may perform security duties in potentially high-risk situations in guarding the safety of court personnel and the public.

Based upon your direct experience and background, a salary offer will likely be presented to you within our starting minimum to midpoint of range ($45,969 - $58,611).

TYPICAL CLASSIFICATION ESSENTIAL DUTIES

TYPICAL CLASSIFICATION ESSENTIAL DUTIES        
  • Performs essential duties of Court Security Officer and participates in required training.
  • Coordinates court security services with the court security officers for the courts within their assigned area of operation. 
  • Acts as a liaison between the JP Court Justices, Court Supervisor and Court Security Supervisor.
  • Assigns tasks and observes the work activities of court security officers.
  • May participate in the recruitment, selection, training and documentation of court security staff.
  • Responsible for the training of new and existing court security staff; provide mentoring and performance feedback to officers.
  • Assist Security Supervisor in responding to and resolving visitor and security incidents and complaints by investigating, identifying resolutions, discussing options with supervisor, and elevate to manager for effective resolutions.
  • May assist the supervisor in the development, implementation and/or coordination of court security officer training requirements.
  • May act on behalf of the Security Supervisor in the supervisor's absence or as appropriate.
  • Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, customer records and restricted County information.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK 
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent; AND
  • Three (3) years of experience as a Pinal County Superior Court security officer; OR Five (5) years of experience as a certified weapons-carrying officer in high level security, corrections, or law enforcement.
  • Arizona residents must have a valid Arizona Driver’s License upon hire; newly established Arizona Residents must have one within 30 days of hire.
Special Requirements
  • Must be able to qualify and maintain defensive tactics and firearms qualification in accordance with Superior Court security policies and procedures within 45 days of hire.
  • Will be required to successfully complete a thorough background check.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of law enforcement techniques, investigative procedures, local law enforcement rules and jurisdictions, security principles and methods.
  • Knowledge of the usage of security equipment, courtroom procedures, and the principles and practices of building evacuation.
  • Ability to evaluate and respond to security problems in a swift, effective manner, and with appropriate actions.
  • Ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple tasks, projects and demands, work within deadlines to complete projects and assignments, while identifying effective resolutions to incidents.
  • Ability to read, interpret and apply relevant city, county, state and federal statutes, rules, ordinances, codes, administrative orders, and other relevant directives.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers, County employees, representatives from governmental agencies, the general public, and individuals who have business with Pinal County Superior Court.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer using Microsoft Office and some specialized software applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with judges.
  • Ability to perform first aid and CPR methods and techniques.
  • Knowledge of effective customer services skills.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions as well as communicating effectively in writing and verbally.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Independent body mobility to stand, walk, run, bend, and sit for prolonged periods of time and/or drive a vehicle. Manual dexterity to reach, and grasp; manual dexterity to hand write or use computer keyboard; vision sufficient to see and read; hear and speak to communicate with citizens in person and over the phone. The ability to communicate effectively, interrogate and interview people, discern noises that may require investigation, and perform telephone and radio communication; perform surveillance, sight and shoot a firearm safely and effectively, and coordinate and conduct investigations. May be required to lift up to 50 lbs.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Office/Court Setting. Will be required to work with individuals that may be resistant, antagonistic, and/or hostile.
