JOB SUMMARY
Provide experienced nursing services teaching, evaluating needs, administering care and accurately charting family planning, STDs, immunizations for adults and children, and Well Woman. Provide supervision to Public Health Nurses. This position will work in collaboration with other Clinic Professionals and as directed by the Division Manager over Clinic Operations. The Public Health Nurse Supervisor will oversee the Immunization Program and will work closely with Clinic Operations Supervisors to provide support and guidance to Public Health staff relating to Immunizations.

TYPICAL CLASSIFICATION ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Provides Nursing Services in accordance to Pinal County Public Health policy and procedures and program requirements on Immunizations, Family Planning, Sexually Transmitted Infections and Well Woman programs.
  • Ensures licensing compliance and proper program protocol is following on all Pinal County Public Health programs.
  • Supervise Public Health Nurses, provide support and identify training and evaluation of competencies.
  • Provide in service trainings and technical assistance to department, division, and providers.
  • Works collaboratively with Clinic Operations Supervisors on administrative duties including:
    • Review medical charts, conducts chart audits and provides feedback as necessary.
    • Monitor employee staffing, attendance and productivity on a daily basis; assists staff with day to day schedule.
    • Handles clinical issues that may arise in collaboration with the Clinic operation supervisor as necessary.
    • Prepares and develops performance plans and appraisals for Public Health Nurses.
    • Participate in progressive disciplinary action as required with staff.
    • Facilitates orientation and mentoring of newly hired Public Health Nurses.
    • Coordinates Nursing staffing needs with Clinic Operations Supervisor.
  • The Public Health Nurse Supervisor will identify and support Public Health Nurses in attending trainings and yearly conferences.
  • Acts as the Immunization Coordinator for Pinal County Public Health to achieve the following responsibilities:
    • Nurse Supervisor will Case Manage Immunizations 24-35 month olds to maintain a rate of 80% or higher and HPV rates amongst teens.
    • Oversees the administration of Immunizations for children and adults, including vaccine screening and administration.
    • Oversees maintenance of vaccine storage and handling as per Center for Disease Control (CDC) and Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) guidelines, including follow up on any temperature excursions of the refrigerator(s) housing vaccines that are required to be maintained at certain temperature levels.
    • Oversees Public Health Nurses are providing clear and accurate documentation including insurance verification, nursing notes, consent forms, reporting forms, lot number sheets, and the Arizona Immunization Information System (ASIIS) data input.
    • Completes and submits Immunization quarterly and annual report to Public Health Finance Division Manager and ADHS.
    • Attends quarterly, annual Immunization program meetings, annual state Immunization conference and prepares for annual state review of Immunization program.
    • Serves as a liaison to Pinal County Public Health Staff, Schools and Arizona Immunization Program Office for all Immunizations needs.
    • Updates Immunization policies and procedures annually.
    • Completes re enrollments for Vaccine For Children (VFC) and Vaccine For Adults (VFA) as required through ADHS.
    • VFA estimating tool will be completed.
    • Completes annual Immunization Action Plan.
    • Serves as Pinal County Public Health local approver for staff in ASIIS for all VFA orders.
    • Available, resourceful and provides guidance to staff regarding immunizations. Provides assistance with obtaining information i.e. pink book, ADHS, Public Health Medical Director.
    • Contacts ADHS as needed for assistance with any Immunization questions.
  •  Leads a team to achieve the following responsibilities:
    • Collects Immunization data, compile statistical information and prepares reports for use of program planning, evaluation and in house-related surveys and studies.
    • Review and ensure records are updated and interfaced in ASIIS as needed.
    • Prepares assessments by Case Managing, inactivating in ASIIS when appropriate for preparations.
    • Works on Pfizer and other reminder/recall program for toddlers .

  • Perform other related duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK

  • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing with a valid unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Arizona State Board of Nursing.
  • Current license to practice nursing in the State of Arizona.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two (2) years of professional nursing experience, preferably in public health programs.
  • Valid Arizona State Driver's License.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of policies, guidelines, and standards of the Arizona State Board of Nursing and Nurse Practice Act.
  • Knowledge of applicable Arizona Revised Statutes and County Ordinances regarding public health.
  • Knowledge of Federal and state public health program regulations and requirements including Arizona Department of Health Services and Federal Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines, procedures, and standards.
  • Knowledge of regional public health protocols, communicable disease issues, and reporting standards.
  • Knowledge of regional community service agencies and other public assistance programs.
  • Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing standard and specialized software, including Arizona State Immunization Information System (ASIIS).
  • Ability to provide effective nursing services and properly using medical instruments and laboratory equipment.
  • Ability to assess community needs and identify public health issues and trends.
  • Ability to use courtesy and respect in providing nursing services and responding appropriately to emergency situations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is light and requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.  The work also requires the ability to balance, finger, feel, grasp, handle, reach, perform repetitive motion, kneel, lift, pull, push, speak, hear, stand, stoop, walk, operate motor vehicles and demonstrate visual and mental acuity.
