Coordinate the implementation of Public Health Services Department (PHSD) programs in Pinal County schools, conduct classes, distribute PHSD materials, monitor public health issues and trends, and assess the needs of the school populations under basic supervision.
TYPICAL CLASSIFICATION ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Provide liaison services to Pinal County schools to identify and address public health issues for the PHSD.
- Meet with school administration staff, teachers, and counselors to foster communications and establish plans to provide PHSD services.
- Evaluate ongoing public health issues and identify trends and issues of concern at the schools.
- Evaluate services provided and develop plans for new and additional services for upcoming school terms.
- Provide health education classes and distribute health education materials.
- Provide information on public health clinics and mobile clinic operations.
- Assess the needs of each school served and coordinate the resources required to meet the defined needs.
- Monitor communicable disease trends and prepare summary and special reports.
- Collect, compile, analyze, and report data on PHSD services and program participation.
- Coordinate with emergency agencies to assist with disaster preparedness plans.
- Provide outreach programs to explain the nature of PHSD programs and services to community groups and identify, evaluate, and report community needs.
- Maintain absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, customer records, and restricted County information.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Associate's degree in Nutrition, Health Sciences, Sociology, or related field.
- One (1) year of work experience in public health or social services programs.
- Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience may substitute for the minimum requirements.
- Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Health Sciences, Sociology, or related field.
- Valid Arizona State Driver's License.
- Knowledge of Federal and state public health program regulations and requirements, including Arizona Department of Health Services procedures and standards, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and other grant funded programs.
- Knowledge of regional community service agencies and other public assistance programs.
- Knowledge of principles of record keeping and records management.
- Skill in interpreting and applying state laws, County ordinances, rules and regulations, and policies and procedures governing public health and school program functions.
- Skill in compiling and analyzing operational data, preparing and maintaining accurate records, and generating reports.
- Ability to operate a personal computer utilizing standard and specialized software.
- Ability to effectively present public health and safety topics to students in a classroom.
The work is light and requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. The work also requires the ability to balance, crawl, finger, handle, reach, perform repetitive motion, kneel, speak, hear, stand, walk, operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment, and demonstrate visual and mental acuity.

The hiring salary for this position is dependent upon experience, qualifications and position funding; starting salaries above the first quartile require additional approval.
