JOB SUMMARY
Perform skilled labor in the repair and routine servicing of tires for vehicles in the field and is responsible for managing, organizing, and coordinating tire inventory.  

TYPICAL CLASSIFICATION ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Work in this classification requires an individual to be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the primary classification functions herein described.   • Repair and replace automotive and heavy construction equipment tires in the shop as well as in the field, in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.
  • Perform emergency field service tire repair and replacement as needed.
  • Assist mechanics with repair projects as requested.
  • Place and receive order for semi and heavy equipment tires.
  • Manage tire inventory levels to maintain equipment and vehicle up time at 9 county locations.
  • Work with internal customers to determine the proper specifications for tire application.
  • Manage tire casings sent out for retreading; track how many times a casing can be retreaded before casing is no longer usable and determine which brands will provide the best casings for retreading.
  • Work with retread vendor to analyze retread failure rate and make follow-up recommendations.
  • Monitor vendor performance to ensure service is adequate for the County’s needs.
  • Maintain shop, yard, and equipment in clean and orderly condition.
  • Follow all safety rules and regulations and closely follows verbal and written instructions. Report safety hazards, equipment repair needs, and security and emergency situations.
  • Promote and adhere to the workplace values of accountability, commitment, and teamwork to help enrich lives beyond expectation.
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, customer records, and restricted County information.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of tire repair or mechanic experience.   
  • Arizona residents must have an Arizona Driver’s License upon hire; newly established Arizona Residents must have one within 30 days of hire.
  • Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience may substitute for the minimum requirements.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of safety standards and practices in a shop environment.
  • Knowledge of the maintenance and repair of tires.
  • Ability to consult, maintain and repair tires according to standard operating and safety procedures.
 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work is very heavy work and requires exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.  The work also requires the ability to climb, crawl, crouch finger, grasp, handle, reach, perform repetitive motion, kneel, lift, pull, push, speak, hear, stand, stoop, walk, operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment, and demonstrate visual and mental acuity.  May be subject to random drug testing.
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT:      
Work is performed in the field with heavy equipment and machinery that could result in bodily harm.

The hiring salary for this position is dependent upon experience, qualifications and position funding; starting salaries above the first quartile require additional approval.
